сокр AFDCФедеральная программа, учрежденная по Закону о социальном обеспечении 1935 [ Social Security Act]; помощь по ней оказывалась детям, живущим в малообеспеченных или неполных семьях или с родственником. Программа предоставляла в распоряжение штатов федеральные средства для распределения помощи, которую в 1992 получали более 4,6 млн. семей. С 1988 родители детей старше 3 лет, получавшие помощь, должны были постоянно работать или проходить переподготовку и обучение, оплачиваемые государством, в случае невозможности немедленного получения рабочего места (при этом они в течение года продолжали получать страховку по программе "Медикейд" [ Medicaid]). Осуществлялась под эгидой министерства здравоохранения и социальных служб США [ Department of Health and Human Services, U.S.] и была крупнейшей федеральная программой адресной помощи [ entitlement program] после программы "Продовольственные талоны" [ food stamps].
